Kathy Malloch

Dr. Kathy Malloch is a recognized expert in leadership and development of
effective evidence-based processes for patient care. Her uncanny
focus on accountability and results is the hallmark of her practice.
Her expertise in identification of organizational, clinical,
productivity, and financial indicators / variables to effectively
analyze data in the evaluation of futuristic healthcare systems
engaged in evidence-based facility design is highly sought after.
In addition to her consulting practice, Dr. Malloch is the program
director for Arizona State University, College of Nursing and
Healthcare Innovation, Master of Healthcare Innovation program. This
innovative, multidisciplinary program is the first of its kind in
the country. Dr. Malloch also continues to consult with Banner
Estrella Medical Center, the hospital of the future, as the evidence
based researcher.
Kathy has published extensively in proctored health journals and has
written five books. A nationally known writer and speaker, Dr.
Malloch has been a registered nurse for 35 years. She has written on

Leadership” co-authored with Tim Porter-O’Grady is now in the second

She has received numerous awards including the “Excellence in
Nursing" award from the American Nurses' Association and the Edgar
C. Hayhow ACHE article of the year award on Description and
Measurement of Healing Environments. The nursing community in
Arizona acknowledges her as one of its top leaders and applauds her
leadership as president of the Board of Nursing for three terms. In

Greg Crow

Dr. Gregory
Crow has over 25 years of experience in health care in a variety
of roles and settings. His clinical experience includes cardiology,
ob/gyn, labor and delivery, and psychology. Dr. Crow’s
administrative and leadership positions have included clinical
supervisor, director of nursing and assistant hospital administrator
for patient care services for a multi-hospital system. Dr. Crow is
Emeritus Professor, and Director of Graduate Programs in Nursing
Administration, Education and Case Management at Sonoma State
University, and has been a senior consultant for Tim Porter-O’Grady
Associates, Inc. for over 12 years.
Dr. Crow is a member of Sigma Theta Tau
International, the Association of California Nurse Leaders, and
Alpha Sigma Nu. Dr. Crow is one of seven international editors of
the Sigma Theta Tau International monograph series and served as a
Director at Large for the Oncology Nursing Society.
Dr. Crow consults internationally in
organizational and systems development, creating motivating work
environments, transformational change and the implementation of
shared governance systems. He presents on these topics at state,
national and international conferences. Dr. Crow’s publications
appear in a wide variety of professional nursing journals and

Dr. Kathy Scott is a senior health-care consultant, executive, researcher, writer and speaker with expertise and a proven track record in managing wide-scale change through a robust change model and team approach. Strengths include:

Most recently, as recent System Vice President of Clinical Delivery at Banner Health, Kathy provided leadership and strategic direction across seven states, 22 hospitals, home health and hospice services, and multiple surgery centers. Kathy has served in a variety of executive roles including Regional Vice President of Clinical Services, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and Board Member.
Kathy is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and also serves as board member and secretary of the Arizona State Board of Nursing, member of the National Council State Boards of Nursing Continuing Competency Committee, American Organization of Nurse Executives member, and board member for several not-for-boards. She graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) in 1975, masters in public health administration (MPA) in 1990 and doctor of philosophy (PhD) in healthcare administration and organizational systems in 2004.
System planning and design accomplishments include:
• Design and Implementation of the Innovation Cycle and supporting infrastructure that produced several new prototypes for clinical delivery.
• The development of a $12 million, 55,000 square foot simulation training center for competency-based training to reduce errors and accelerate clinicians’ learning.
• The development and implementation of an “e-med-surg model” with remote care technology integrated with a novel multi-disciplinary care-delivery model.
• Oversight and integration of the remote critical-care model.
• The development and implementation of a regional patient placement model that substantially increased volume with an annual contribution margin of $ 60 million across 12 facilities.
• The design and implementation of a professional practice framework and infrastructure to inform and support the clinical professionals across 22 hospitals and promote Magnet readiness—to include role delineation, expert criteria and recognition process, regulatory reporting criteria, standardized clinical competencies.
• Successful planning, design and implementation of multiple new programs including: evidence-based practice standards for clinicians, cardio-vascular centers, oncology center, IV infusion center, chest-pain units, outpatient family birthing center, wound clinic, pre-admission testing programs, observation unit, and an outpatient surgery center. |

Amy Steinbinder,

Dr. Amy Steinbinder has over 25 years of leadership and management experience in healthcare. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Arizona and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Colorado. Amy’s focus has been working with leaders and staff to create engaging work environments in which professional nursing can be practiced. She was a Magnet hospital appraiser for the American Nursing Credentialing Center for 12 years.
Amy served most recently as the Administrator for Service Excellence and as the Administrator for Patient Safety at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. During those years, she worked closely with clinical staff, physicians and organizational leaders to create a culture of service and safety. Relationship building and team training are key components of these cultures and she works with clinical staff and physicians to enhance communication to promote safe patient care.
Amy currently is a managing partner of Thunderbird Leadership Consulting, a company that is focused on partnering with leaders in optimizing effectiveness both personally and organizationally. She is also the System Director for Clinical Practice at Banner Health where she is involved in creating and implementing innovative care delivery models using technology to leverage clinicians’ ability to increase direct patient care time without increasing numbers of staff. Amy is an avid reader and traveler and lives in Phoenix Arizona. |

Sharon Cox

Sharon Cox is a
nationally known speaker and healthcare consultant with over twenty
years experience in leadership development and system wide culture
change. She has conducted seminars and consulted with over 400
hospitals in the United States and Canada and has developed a
reputation as a thought provoking and energizing presenter. As
President of Cox and Associates and leadership consultant with Tim
Porter-O’Grady Associates, Inc. the focal points in her consulting
practice include leadership development, team building, change
management and promoting shared decision making both in Nursing and
across other disciplines. Prior to consulting she held a variety of
positions ranging from staff nurse to faculty and administrative
roles in academic health centers.
Sharon has
published in professional journals and developed audio visual
materials which support her work in organizational development and
horizontal integration. In Sharon’s work with Tim Porter O’Grady
Associates, her focus is on facilitating management development
around moving from a parental approach and hierarchical model to
more of a collaborative work environment. Many organizations have
found her work relating to reframing the Nurse Managers role in
shared governance to be instrumental in their long term success with
shared decision making and timely in relation to creating a culture
for retention.
Sharon received
her diploma in Nursing from Georgia Baptist Hospital and her
Baccalaureate and Masters in Nursing from the Medical College of
Georgia. She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse
Executives and the American Society for Training and Development.
She is on the editorial board of Nursing Management Magazine and is a co-author of The Nurse Manager’s Toolkit published
by HCPro. She also co-authored Nature’s Wisdom in the Workplace:
A Guide to Managing Energy in Today’s Healthcare Organizations. With her interest in culture change in healthcare Sharon also
contributed several chapters in Jo Manion’s best selling book Creating A Positive Healthcare Workplace published by the

Victoria M. George

Dr. Victoria George has been a Chief Nurse Executive for over 23 years. She was CNO at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, an academic medical center located in Lebanon, New Hampshire and lead them through Magnet re-designation. As the SVP/CNO for Catholic Health Initiatives, a 68-facility health system based in Denver Colorado, she developed their first system-wide Shared Governance Structure. While the Regional VP/CNE for Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, Dr. George led the first hospital system to Magnet designation in 2001 and first five Magnet hospitals in Wisconsin. Her passion for shared decision-making and shared governance implementation has provided the framework for her consulting services for the past ten years. Examples of Dr. George’s international work include collaboration with Dr. Tim Porter O’Grady on nursing and Interdisciplinary shared governance in Brazil; Dr. Kodera’s leadership exchange in Japan; Dr. Linda Aiken on the journey to nursing excellence in Russia; and Magnet education in Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Dr. George began her long association with ANCC as a Magnet program appraiser and then shifted her focus to assisting facilities and systems embarking on the journey to nursing excellence and Magnet designation. She expertly guides organizations in assessing their application readiness, identifying sources of evidence, and validating how well a process, practice, or program is developed, disseminated and acculturated within the organization. Dr. George challenges nursing staff to transform their practice environment through shared governance, shared decision-making, peer review, evidence-based practice and nursing research. Dr. George has assisted over 80 organizations obtain Magnet recognition. She is also a frequent instructor for ANCC’s popular “Journey to Nursing Excellence and Magnet Designation” two-day workshop and a national speaker at the Magnet National conference. Virginia R. Beeson

A native of Sussex, New Jersey, Ginny Beeson began her nursing career at the University of Vermont in May 1973, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Immediately following graduation, she joined the Navy as a Nurse Corps Officer and was assigned to The Naval Submarine Medical Center, Groton, Connecticut, as a staff nurse and later a charge nurse on the surgical ward. In 1977, she was transferred to the Naval Hospital Pensacola, Florida, where she worked as a head nurse (nurse manager) on a general surgery ward. From Pensacola, she was transferred to the Naval Hospital in Keflavik, Iceland and was the supervisor of the Outpatient and Aviation Medicine Clinics. After returning from Iceland, she completed a three-year tour in Charleston, South Carolina, again serving as the head nurse on a surgery ward. In 1985, she moved to Boston where she received a Masters Degree in Nursing Administration from Boston University.
Following graduate school, she was assigned to The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where she served as a head nurse and director in the surgical area. In 1989, she reported to The Bureau of Naval Personnel where she spent 2 1/2 years as a Nurse Corps Assignment Officer, assigning Navy nurses nation and world-wide. In June 1991, she reported to the Naval School of Health Sciences as Director of the Leadership Training Division, and in June 1992 became the Senior Director of the Leadership and Professional Training Department, providing leadership & management education throughout the Navy Medical Department. From
July 1995 to March 1998, she was stationed at Naval Hospital, Jacksonville where she was the Director of Nursing Services. She reported to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in March 1998 and assumed duties as the Deputy Director of the Navy Nurse Corps, making policy and programmatic decisions for Navy nurses world-wide. From 2001-2003, she was the Chief Nurse Executive at The National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.
Ginny retired from the Navy in June, 2003; she currently is a Director of Leadership Development and faculty member at The Nursing Leadership Academy, a division of The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC. She also has her own business, providing healthcare leadership, education and consulting to leading hospitals around the nation. Ginny holds multiple military decorations including 2 Legion of Merit award and 2 Meritorious Service Medals. She is certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced from the American Nurses’ Association. |

Jack Gilbert, EdD FACHE is director of the Master of Healthcare Innovation program and faculty associate in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. He is also president of New Page Consulting, Inc. Jack is a noted expert in organizational ethics, leadership and large scale change, an award-winning author, a presenter, and a consultant to a wide range of organizations.
Jack brings equal measures of experience, research, and heart to the question of what it takes to do the right thing every day, an enduring challenge for even the most well-meaning organizations. He focuses on the role of culture, leadership, infrastructure, and personal integrity in making that happen.
His latest book Strengthening Ethical Wisdom: Tools for Transforming Your Health Care Organization was published by AHA Press in 2007. His next book co-authored with Barbara Balik and tentatively titled Crossing the Leadership Chasm will be published in early 2010.
Jack holds his doctorate from The George Washington University in Washington D.C., where his dissertation focused on the role of ethics in decision-making. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and in 2008 received the College’s Service Award.
He consults and speaks extensively to leadership audiences in healthcare on what it takes to do the right thing every day, everywhere in the organization.
